Hello Oswalt Eagles!!

I am very sorry that you haven't heard from us in a few days. We have been very busy biking across the desert in California. Most of the places that we have stayed are very small, and we did not have internet. Here is where the Oswalt Eagle has been since you last heard from us!

Day 3:  Walnut to Hesperia.  We left Oswalt on our way to Hesperia.  We had too much rain and lightening to ride safely so we had to end the day early and ride in the vans, but we saw a rainbow along the way.

 Day 4:  Hesperia to Barstow

Ben, Chris, Blair, and Nicole at the Barstow Fire Department where we stayed
Barstow:
Population was 22,639

Barstow is home to Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow and is the closest city to Fort Irwin Military Reservation.

The settlement of Barstow began in the late 1840s in the Mormon CorridorPeople, goods and animal herds would move from New Mexico and Utah to Los Angeles, along the Old Spanish Trail from Santa Fe, or from Salt Lake City along the Salt Lake Road.

Barstow is named after William Barstow Strong.

Day 5:  Barstow, CA to Kelso, CA
Route 66 - the road we took across California
One of the original U.S. Highways, Route 66 was established on November 11, 1926. The highway, which became one of the most famous roads in America, originally ran from Chicago,Illinois, through MissouriKansasOklahomaTexasNew MexicoArizona, and California, before ending at Los Angeles, covering a total of 2,448 miles.

We rode the historic Route 66 from Barstow to Kelso. It was a very very long day. We each rode our bikes for 92 miles, and climbed up 4,000 feet.

We had about 30 flat tires in one day.

Day 6:  Kelso, CA to Shoshone, CA

Mojave National Preserve is where we stayed while we were in the desert and this is our campsite.

Day 7:  Shoshone, CA to Las Vegas, Nevada

The laundromat where we are at in Las Vegas, cleaning our clothes.

Day 8:  Las Vegas, Nevada

We thought we could rest today, but realized we had work to do.  We washed clothes, shopped and did all the internet work we had been unable to do for the last few days.

Day 9:  Las Vegas, Nevada to Alamo, Nevada.

We are leaving Las Vegas today.  We might not be able to post each day, but we are keeping Oswalt's Eagle safe as we travel together across America.
