We made it to DC in 53 then rode yesterday from DC to Bethany, Delaware.

We did it!!!  San Diego Beach to Bethany Beach.
From the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean.

Some of us cried when we saw the Atlantic.... it was a wonderful moment.  We are proud to have accomplished our goal.  We are sad that our trip is done.  We have a great team.  We have met many wonderful citizens of this great nation.  We think America is BEAUTIFUL from sea to shining sea!

We appreciate all your questions.  We loaded our vans last evening and drove back to Ohio.  We will unpack the vans this evening after everyone has rested.  We graduate on Thursday.  We will send a few pictures in a few days.

To answer your questions and discuss the blog.

Jim is not named after Jim Thorpe.

We like the idea of Market Day.  The tacos sound great!!  We found out that most of us are not good cooks.  We had a rider who joined us for a short while, and he was a chef.  He could make inexpensive but great meals.

Larry was our oldest rider.  His wife picked him up in Delaware so we don't know his birthday.  He said that riding across the nation was on his "bucket list"... a list of things he wanted to do in his lifetime.  He struggled to complete the ride because his knee started hurting, but HE DID IT!

Our Ride for World Health budget was managed by Lisa and Mark.  We all raised enough money for our trip.  Larry chose not to spend any extra money.  If we went to a restaurant instead of cooking, then he chose to eat left-overs.  Most of us have our own personal bank accounts, and used that money during the trip if we WANTED something.  Anything we NEEDED, was paid for by the ride.

To have enough energy for the day, we must eat well, drink plenty of fluids and get a good nights sleep.  We also take each 5th day and drive one of the vans so our body can rest.

We have two changes of riding clothes, so we hand wash them every 2 days.  We usually went to a laundromat about once a week.

We lived in Columbus, Ohio during med school.  We saw our houses and slept in our warm and cozy beds.

At our picnic we had grilled chicken, grilled sausage, fruit, many types of salads and a cake with our picture on it.  The Oswalt Eagle accidentally got mustard on it's face!!

Success...  we planned....  we trained.... but we needed to think and adjust our plans along the way.  We had to be good problem solvers and good team members.  One of our tricks for success.... we looked at small chunks of the ride and tackled that small chunk.  For example, one day when the mountain was so tall, we told ourselves to ride for 10 minutes and rest a moment, then we rode for 10 minutes more.  We conquered the mountain 10  minutes at a time.

We hope we have inspired you to dream big dreams and then plan and train to succeed.  Exercise if just for a moment.  Eat as healthy as possible. Learn something new every day.

We are doing the same.

The Ride for World Health Team

Good Morning Eagles,

Today is Tuesday, May 29, 2012

It is day 48.

Only 5 days until Washington, D.C. and 53!

Getting ready to ride into Columbus, Ohio.

We were in Columbus, Ohio… our home school.

We had a barbeque on Thursday, a picnic on Friday and a Solidarity ride with the community on Saturday.  We visited with family and friends.  We gave a talk at the College of Medicine about nutrition. We had so much fun.

Columbus, Ohio Solidarity Ride 2012

We left Columbus and rode through Athens, Ohio and then on to West Virginia.  The Oswalt Eagle rode in the van.  It was 95 degrees.  There are beautiful trees and rolling hills.  We had a tiring but fun ride.

Hope you are having a great day.

Your friends,
The Ride for World Health Team

Our oldest rider is Larry who is 70 years old.

Our state has an official state tree.  It is called the Buckeye Tree because it has seeds (called Buckeye Nuts) that look like a deer’s eyes.

“Buck” “Eye”… what do you think?

The Ohio State University’s mascot is called Brutus Buckeye.

The Oswalt Eagle wanted to get a picture in front of the sign for Birdseye.

Birdseye, Indiana

We are always excited to hear from you on our blog and to hear about all your classroom activities.

We do not have lucky charms, but we carry things that remind of us the people we love.  We carry the Oswalt Eagle and we think of you on our journey.  The Oswalt Eagle is about to meet our Buckeye Nation...  The land of The Ohio State University.

We left Kansas this morning and are riding into Missouri.

We use Microsoft Picture It software program to add the wheels.

We went to the laundromat yesterday, and took time to look at our quarters.  We did NOT know about all the symbols!  We found a good website though, and are learning.

We were interested to hear about your living museum.  Amelia Earhart is an Aviation Pioneer!  She was born in Kansas.  Our symbols on our Ohio quarter honor the Wright Brothers who were the inventors of the airplane and our astronauts Neil Armstrong and John Glenn who were born in Ohio.

We have a list of things to bring:  one large duffle bag,  one small dufflebag or backpack., a sleeping bag, a pillow, a bike, helmet, and bike shoes and some money.  Our vans carry lots of other equipment like spare tires and parts.

We do not stay in hotels very often.  Most nights we stay in community centers or schools.  On the night we were to stay in White City, we stayed in the high school gym.  We bring our bikes in to keep them safe.

We did not see any Monarch butterflies when we went through the Monarch Pass because it was only 40 degrees.   They have gone south for winter and will come back in summer.

We plan our stops.  If anyone needs to stop riding, then they put their bikes on the van and ride in the van.  We are drinking water, eating and putting on sunscreen.
We have a schedule.  We had a date and time we needed to be at your school.  We have a schedule each and every day.  If we need to, we load the bikes on the vans and drive to our destination.  We had to do that 2 days because of bad weather.  We are in Missouri.  We colored our route.

Thank you for sharing all your information about your class projects.  We can imagine how artistic your golden masks are.  We are still counting how many flats we have had and we will let you know.  So far, our largest number for one day was 35!  Happy Birthday.  We have celebrated a few birthdays too.  Have fun learning.  We are riding..and learning each and every day.

The land in Kansas is flat.  The roads seem endless.

We are thinking of you while we ride through Kansas.  We ride as a team.  We found a night to go bowling.  We celebrated a birthday at a Mexican restaurant.  We stop and talk.  We like learning too.  We are talking about the cows.  We are having fun.

Hope you are having a great day.
